BYD -- 2005 Top-100 Technology Enterprises of China
[ 2005-8-28 ]
BYD Company Ltd., the world second largest IT and electronic parts manufacturer listed in Hongkong, is ranked high on the chart of "2005 Top-100 Technology enterprises of China" by Digital Business Times. The top ten are as follows: TPV technology Ltd., ZTE, SHANDA, BYD, CHINA MOBILE (Hong Kong), Lenovo, CHINA TELECOM, Net Ease, Norcent and CNC (Hong Kong).

Digital business times figures out that BYD, who has reached a ten-year continual growth with a 100% high speed, is a miracle. Its president, Wang Chuanfu, has insisted on the strategy developing their own R&D power to master the core technology. Besides, BYD has gained the advantage of low cost by their powerful innovation ability.

The president has created a "cost management mode with BYD characteristics " by combining their low cost advantages. A Japanese automated production line costs 83 million RMB, while a Chinese manual production line charges just 3 million. No wonder when BYD entered the market, it rocked the price system of the Japanese battery with a 40% price gap. The company's innovative power soon attracted Motorola, the giant cell phone maker, to become its biggest customer. Later a many domestic cellphone makers, like Haier, Bird, TCL, etc, also ordered products from BYD. Besides cellphone market, BYD customers also include world-known names like GE, NIKKO, etc.

This selection has broken through the traditional way that has graded the listed companies respectively in three categories: Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and overseas companies. Instead, all of them are measured in different markets on the same scale this year. Candidates are Chinese technology companies with major business run in mainland, and got listed on Shanghai stock exchange, Shenzhen stock exchange, Hong Kong stock exchange and NASDAQ stock exchange before Dec. 31, 200. The business scope of the selection includes communication, electronics, telecom, semiconductor,   computer software and hardware, biotechnology, western medicine, etc.

The choice of ranking standard made reference to the four indexes by which American BUSINESSWEEKS selected InfoTech100 ¡ªRevenues, Revenue growth, Return on equity, and Shareholder return in the proportion of 1.5:1:1:1.
