20 Scientists Awarded by China Science Association
"Truth-seeking outstanding scientist award" is conferred on Dr. Pan Jianwei and "Truth-seeking outstanding youth award of China Science Association" on 19 researchers like Zhu Suihuan and Wang Chuanfu, during the opening ceremony of 2005 Annual Meeting of China Science Association on August 20.
"Truth-seeking outstanding scientist award" was set up by Hongkong Truth-seeking Sci.&Tech. Fund with 20 million USD donation from Cha Jimin and his family in 1994. The consulting panel for the nominee's judgments is composed of six world-known top scientists with Chinese origin -- Chen Shengshen, Yang Zhenting, Zhou Guangzhao, Li Yuanzhe, Jian Ruiwei and He Dayi. So far hundreds of Chinese scientists have been given the award for their significant contribution in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biomedicine, etc.
Mr. Pan Jianwei, the 35-year-old professor in University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) as well as Chief of quantum physics and information research dept. of Hefei national lab for physical sciences at the microscale (HFNL). With a series of pathbreaking achievements in quantum information theory and fundamental questions of the quantum theory, Prof. Pan has been regarded as a pioneer lifting Chinese level in multi-particle entanglement research up to world leading position. It is him who has first managed to prepare the entanglement state of three-photon, four-photon and five-photon; who has first confirmed by experiments the quantum nonlocality of multi-photon entanglement; who first realized invisible transmission in quantum state, the entanglement purification and quantum repeaters; and who first succeeded in the world longest distance quantum communication based on entanglement in free space. Those accomplishments have been listed in "Annual Top-10 Scientific Developments in China" in the last two years by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and also praised seven times as Worldwide Annual Great Advance in Physics by European Society of Physics and American Society of Physics. The award certificate with 1million RMB prize is handed over to Prof. Pan today by Mr. Cha Jimin, the donator of Truth-seeking Fund. Also issued at the same time are "Truth-seeking outstanding youth award of China Science Association", including ”°Technology industrialization award" to Wang Chuanfu, Zhang Minhai, Rao Xiaolei and Xiong Xiang, as well as "Engineering application award" to Zhu Suihuan and other 14 people. |
